The first price is the promotional monthly price. "Avg" is the average monthly cost over the first contract year, which is a fairer way to compare. Cashback and gifts are provider promotions and can change at any time. Looking for gifts and cashback only? See our best deals and welcome gifts page.
Always look at three numbers: the discounted price, how many months the discount lasts, and the regular price afterwards. A deal that is €5 cheaper for six months can cost more over two years than a plan with a smaller but longer discount.
The Netherlands has some of the best home internet infrastructure in Europe. Almost every household can get a fast fixed connection, and in many areas you can choose between several networks. That choice is good news, but it also makes comparing confusing, especially if you are new to the country, do not read Dutch, or are used to a single national provider.
There are four ways internet reaches a Dutch home. Fiber optic internet (glasvezel) brings light signals straight to a box in your meterkast and offers symmetric speeds up to several gigabits. Cable internet runs over Ziggo's coax network, which reaches most homes and delivers high download speeds with lower upload. DSL uses the old telephone copper line and is slowly being replaced by fiber. Finally, 5G home internet uses the mobile network and a plug-in router, which is handy for short stays or when no fixed line is ready yet.
A network and a provider are not always the same company. KPN, Delta and Open Dutch Fiber build and own fiber networks, and Ziggo owns the cable network. Other brands, such as Odido, Budget Thuis and Youfone, sell packages over those networks. That is why two providers can offer very similar speeds at the same address, and why price and service often matter more than the brand name.
Dutch providers compete hard for new customers. Most offers combine a reduced price for the first 6 to 14 months with a free connection, cashback or a welcome gift. After that period the regular price applies. Comparing the average price over your first year or two is the most honest way to see which deal is actually cheapest. Our cheap internet guide shows how budget brands keep costs low without slower networks.
We write for expats, international students, knowledge workers and anyone who prefers to arrange internet in English. Whether you are moving into your first Dutch apartment, sharing a student house or simply paying too much for an old contract, the steps are the same: check your address, choose a sensible speed, compare the full price and order or switch at the right moment.
Most Dutch internet contracts have an initial term of one or two years. Once that term ends, consumer contracts can usually be cancelled with one month's notice. If you order online you generally have 14 days to change your mind. Read the minimum term carefully if your rental or job contract is temporary.
Providers ask for your postcode and house number, a contact email and phone number, and an IBAN for monthly direct debit. Some ask for ID details. If you do not have a Dutch bank account yet, check whether your foreign IBAN is accepted, or use a flexible 5G plan to bridge the first weeks.
If your home already has an active fiber box or cable socket, you usually receive a router by post and plug it in. New connections may need a technician visit. Plan one to three weeks for a fixed line and order before your moving date so you are not left without internet.
Through the Overstapservice, your new provider can cancel your old contract for you and line up the dates. That avoids paying twice or sitting without a connection. Our switching guide explains the process step by step.
Each technology has a clear strength. Use these overviews to understand the trade-offs before you compare prices.

The six providers you will meet in almost every Dutch comparison, with top speeds and starting prices from our current deal table. Availability always depends on your address.
Former T-Mobile. Offers multi-gigabit fiber and a plug-in 5G home internet option.
The largest Dutch telecom company, with its own fiber network and nationwide service.
Runs the national cable network, available at most Dutch addresses, often bundled with TV.
Builds and runs its own fiber network in many regions, with fast symmetric tiers.
Low-cost brand on existing networks with simple, online-first service.
Budget provider known for low prices and no-frills packages for light users.
In the Netherlands, the company that owns the cable in your street is not always the one that sends the bill. KPN, Delta and Open Dutch Fiber build fiber networks, and Ziggo owns the national cable network. Providers such as Odido, Budget Thuis and Youfone sell packages over those networks. That is why several internet providers can offer almost the same speed at one address, and why price, router and service often decide the best choice.
On fiber, Odido offers the fastest tier in our table at 8,000 Mb/s symmetric, followed by Delta at 5,000 Mb/s and KPN at 4,000 Mb/s. Most homes do not need multi-gigabit speeds, but symmetric fiber upload makes a real difference for video calls, cloud backups and gaming.
Budget Thuis offers 1 Gb/s fiber at the lowest promotional price for that speed, and Youfone has the cheapest entry plan for light users. Always check how long the discount lasts: a provider with a longer discount can be cheaper over a full year than one with a lower headline price.
Where fiber has not arrived yet, Ziggo cable is usually the fastest fixed connection and reaches most Dutch addresses. Ziggo and KPN are also the strongest choices if you want internet and TV in one bundle. For short stays, Odido's plug-in 5G home internet works without a technician.
Housing types, typical residents and local networks differ from city to city. Our local guides explain what that means for your connection.
Have these ready and ordering internet in the Netherlands takes about ten minutes. Missing one is the most common reason for delays.

It depends on your address and your needs. Where fiber is available, KPN, Odido, Delta and budget brands such as Budget Thuis offer symmetric speeds with low latency. Where fiber is not yet connected, Ziggo cable reaches most Dutch homes with high download speeds. Start with a postcode check and compare the price after the promotional period, not just the first-month price.
There are a handful of network owners and a larger number of retail brands. KPN, Delta and Open Dutch Fiber own fiber networks and Ziggo owns the cable network. Brands such as Odido, Budget Thuis and Youfone sell packages over those networks. At a typical address you can choose between several providers, depending on which networks reach your home.
In our current table, Youfone has the lowest monthly price for an entry-level DSL plan, and Budget Thuis offers the cheapest 1 Gb/s fiber. The cheapest provider for you depends on your address and how long the discount lasts, so compare the average price over the first year.
Only providers that use a network reaching your home can connect you. If your address has fiber and cable, you can usually choose between fiber providers and Ziggo. A postcode and house-number check shows which providers are available.
Fiber usually offers equal download and upload speeds and very low latency. Cable from Ziggo offers high download speeds, but upload is much lower. For video calls, cloud backups and gaming, fiber is generally the better choice when it is available at your address. Read more in our fiber guide and cable guide.
If your home already has an active connection point, activation typically takes around one to two weeks. If a technician needs to connect a new line, allow two to three weeks or more. 5G home internet can often be running within a few days.
Most providers need a Dutch address and collect payment by direct debit from an IBAN. Some also ask for ID details. Not every provider accepts every foreign IBAN, so check during ordering. A monthly cancellable 5G plan can bridge the gap while your registration is completed. See the expat guide for details.
Many providers offer English-language support and installation instructions, but the legal terms are usually in Dutch. Our guides explain the key terms, such as the promotional period, minimum term and notice period, in plain English.
The router is normally included. Some providers charge a one-time connection fee, which is often waived during promotions. The most important cost to check is the monthly price after the discount period ends.
For online orders you generally have a 14-day cooling-off period. After the initial term, Dutch consumer contracts can usually be cancelled with one month's notice. Cancelling during the initial term can cost the remaining months, depending on the provider.
Order with the new provider first and choose a start date. Through the Overstapservice, the new provider can cancel your old contract for you, so the switch lines up and you avoid paying twice. Our switching guide covers each step.
As a rough guide: 100 Mb/s for one or two light users, 200 to 500 Mb/s for couples and families who stream and work from home, and 1 Gb/s or more for large households, gamers and people who move big files. Wi-Fi quality inside your home matters as much as the package speed. Try the speed calculator.
5G home internet is useful for short stays, while you wait for a fixed-line installation, or where fixed options are limited. Speeds depend on local signal and network load, so fiber remains the more consistent choice where it is available.
