Ziggo Internet: Cable Broadband Explained
Ziggo's cable network reaches most Dutch homes. Here is what that means for speed, upload, TV and price, and how Ziggo compares with fiber.
Ziggo runs the national cable network in the Netherlands, the same coax cable that once brought only television into Dutch homes. Today that network delivers fast broadband to most addresses in the country, which is why Ziggo shows up in almost every comparison.
Ziggo is part of VodafoneZiggo. For home internet, the key questions are simple: is cable your fastest option, is the lower upload speed a problem for you, and do you want TV in the same package?

How cable internet works
Cable internet runs over coax: the round TV cable with a screw connector that you find in the wall of most Dutch living rooms. A cable modem converts the signal to Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Download speeds are high, but upload is limited, because the technology was built for downloading. In our table, Ziggo's 1 Gb/s package comes with 100 Mb/s upload.
For streaming, browsing and normal video calls, that is plenty. If you regularly upload large files, back up photos to the cloud or stream yourself, fiber with symmetric upload is the stronger choice.
Ziggo and TV
Because the network started as cable TV, Ziggo has a long history with television and offers internet and TV together. A bundle can be good value if you watch live TV and sport. If you mostly use streaming services, an internet-only plan may be cheaper over the year. Our internet + TV guide walks through the numbers.
Who Ziggo suits
- Homes without fiber, where cable is usually the fastest fixed connection.
- TV and sport fans who want one bundle.
- Download-heavy households who stream a lot but upload little.
If fiber is available at your address, compare Ziggo with KPN, Odido or Delta before deciding.
Why people choose Ziggo
- Available at most Dutch addresses through the coax network
- High download speeds, often the fastest option where fiber is not live
- Strong TV packages and bundles
- Cashback and free connection on selected deals
Points to check
- Upload is much lower than download (100 Mb/s in our table)
- Shorter discount period than some competitors
- Fiber usually has lower latency for gaming and calls
Alternatives to Ziggo
At most Dutch addresses you can choose between several providers. If Ziggo is not available or not the best fit, compare these:
- KPN internet – largest network, fiber and TV
- Odido internet – fastest fiber and 5G home internet
- Delta internet – own fiber network, up to 5 Gb/s
- Budget Thuis internet – low-cost fiber with simple service
- Youfone internet – cheapest entry plans for light users

Questions about Ziggo internet
Is Ziggo available at my address?
The Ziggo cable network reaches most Dutch homes, so availability is high. Check your postcode and house number to confirm, and to see whether fiber is also available.
Why is Ziggo upload so much lower than download?
Cable technology shares capacity and is designed for downloading. In our table the 1,000 Mb/s Ziggo package has 100 Mb/s upload. That is fine for most streaming and browsing, but fiber is better if you upload a lot.
Is Ziggo good for TV?
Ziggo is known for its TV offer, and internet + TV bundles are a common choice. Compare a bundle with internet-only plus streaming services in our TV bundle guide.
Should I choose Ziggo or fiber?
If fiber is available and you work from home, game or upload often, fiber is usually the better choice. If fiber is not available, or you want a strong TV bundle, Ziggo is a solid option.
